.it - Requirements:
In order to register a domain, a completed Letter Of
Responsibility (LAR), CONTACT SUPPORT TO RECEIVE THIS DOCUMENT, must be
faxed to H-NIC. This document is posted in Italian and English, and there are
versions for both individuals and registered companies. Please note the Italian
version is the one that must be submitted; the English is only to be used as a
guide. The English document cannot be submitted.
o Please complete the document
electronically, but sign the document using a handwritten signature. Also,
please note the appropriate LAR must be signed by the administrative
contact.
Please allow up to two weeks for the registry to process an order upon
successful receipt by the Registry of the completed documentation.
Only entities residing in or belonging to a European Union member state can
register a .it domain.
The administrative contact must be from the same entity applying for the
domain.
All DNS zones must be pre-configured beforehand. Further information
regarding this requirement is listed under “Important .it Technical
Requirements” below.
The following information is required for each registration:
o For companies:
§ Chamber of Commerce registration
number when required by law, or a statement that there is no
requirement for such registration
§ VAT number, or taxpayer’s code
§ Legal representative’s full name
§ Company headquarters address
o For individuals:
§ Full name
§ Date and place of birth
§ Residential address
§ Unique identifier (ie: taxpayer’s
code) and name of EU country which issued it.
Ordering:
.it remigrations and modifications may be performed through the Reseller
Web Interface (RWI) or API. Please note that the “Update All Info” API
command should be used for .it domain modifications instead of the “Modify
Domain” command.
Orders may take up to three business days to complete.
Transfers:
In order to transfer a .it domain name, a transfer document must be
completed. To transfer a domain name belonging to an individual person, the
document titled ‘.IT Transfer Italian Version for Individuals” must be
completed. To transfer a domain name belonging to a company, the document
titled ‘IT Transfer Italian Version for Companies” must be completed.
Although the documents are posted in Italian and English, the Italian
version is the one that must be submitted; the English is only to be used as a
guide. Please ensure The English document cannot be submitted. It
must be signed by the administrative contact.
o Once the appropriate document is
completed, it must be faxed to H-NIC
Modifications:
In order to make changes to a domain’s admin contact, a modification form
must be completed. It must be signed by the administrative contact. To
modify the admin contact of a domain belonging to an individual person, the
document titled ‘IT Modifications Italian Version for Individuals” must be
completed. To modify the admin contact of a domain belonging to a company, the
document titled ‘IT Modifications Italian Version for Companies” must be
completed. Although the documents are posted in Italian and English, the Italian
version is the one that must be submitted; the English is only to be used as a
guide. Please ensure the English document is not submitted.
o Once the appropriate document is
completed, it must be faxed to H-NIC

Important .it Technical Requirements:
The following DNS requirements must be pre-configured for any domain name
registered:
The domain name must list at least two servers.
The servers’ IP addresses must be static and correspond to those
actually associated with them,
The first nameserver must be the same as indicated in the Server of
Authority (SOA) record of the domain name.
A CNAME must not be associated with the domain name.
The name of the nameserver specified in the SOA cannot be a CNAME.
At least one MX or A record must exist for the domain name.
Where an MX record is listed, it must not have an associated CNAME.
Whenever interrogated, the servers must not give the following
responses: not responding, not reachable, not running, non-existent
domain, host not found, server failure, query failed.
Indicated nameservers must be authoritative for the domain name.
